Open garden's are bloomin great! Posted by admin on Wednesday, July 02 @ 09:19:43 BST (18 reads) Topic
| gobby writes "Fancy a day out tip toeing through the Tulips or dancing through the Dahlia's then relaxing with a cool drink before winning a few prizes?Well Saturday 5th July 2008 see's the door's, or should I say gates open to four of Cradley Heaths most beautiful gardens in support of three local special needs charities.56/58 Haden park Road and 11a / 24 Timbertree Road are open to the public for one day in a bid to boost the funds for The Smilers Club, Open Stage Drama club and Dudley Olympics. There are refreshments on sale and a tombola with some smart prizes on offer if your feeling lucky. If you would like to take a piece of these gardens home with you then there are plants on sale also with all proceeds going to the chosen charities. A small fee of 2.00 gets you into all four gardens with kids getting in free so why not pop along and take a sneaky peek at the pansies.Just be careful you don't get your perennials pinched! You never know you may even see a rare Gobby in amongst the foliage."

Warehouse Fun Day - Saturday 5th July - 12pm till 4pm Posted by admin on Monday, June 23 @ 18:10:18 BST (29 reads) Topic
| | Gobby writes " The Warehouse (Dudley Drug Project) is holding a summer fair and open day at it's premises in Atlantic House, Off Dudley Road, Lye ( entrance behind Tile it all) to raise money for their Hardship Fund. The Warehouse drug project helps people who have suffered or are suffering from drug or alchohol issues to beat their addiction and start to rebuild their life. Drug and Alchohol addiction is a much bigger problem than many people realise and affects people in our community of all ages and backgrounds. The availibilty of alchohol and drugs such as heroin, cocaine , cannibis and amphetemines to our youth means groups like The Warehouse Dudley Drug Project are constantly inundated with clients in need, many of them under the age of 18. Their Hardship fund is used to assist clients set up home or move on with their life after receiving help from the group and is a very worthy fund. Without it there would be many people who would not have this second chance and the consequencies could mean relapse and a return to their addiction. The project not only helps those who need help but also promotes community spirit and encourages those that have been helped by the project to "Give a little back". The Fun day is open to everyone and is sure to be a great day out with a BBQ, Bric a brac stalls, Hook a Duck, face painting, raffles and tombolas just the tip of the iceberg. There is various entertainment including Flame Throwers and just in case Stourbridge Fire Brgade will be on hand to offer support and maybe even a ride in the fire engine if your lucky. Donations for the event are more than welcome and can include small items of furniture, plants, books, childrens toys for the bric a brac stalls or new items for the Tombola. Anyone interested in donating can call Tan on 01384 426120 to arrange dropping items off or send a PM to our group member Juellh who will be manning the Tombola herself. Please take the time to support such a worthy charity that gives so much to the local community and help them to help others who in turn can help the community. Further info about The Warehouse and what they do can be found here "

Hat's off to the pink ladies Posted by admin on Sunday, June 08 @ 16:22:03 BST (45 reads) Topic
| Gobby writes "Sunday 8th June 2008 and a lovely sunny day at Sandwell valley country park in West Bromwich turned out to be a perfect setting for three plucky members from Black Country Gob.
Motherhen, Lubberly and Juellh showed just what Black Country Gob is all about and came together as a community and donned their trainers to take part in the Race for Life organised by Cancer Research UK in a bid to raise both much needed funds and awareness for breast cancer.
More than 44,500 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK each year. The vast majority of these are women. About 300 are men. Breast cancer is now the commonest cancer in the UK (excluding non melanoma skin cancer) and by far the most common cancer in women.
1 in 9 women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime which means all of us may well know of someone, family or friend who has been diagnosed with this illness. Most of the women who get breast cancer are past their menopause, but almost 8,000 diagnosed each year are under 50 years old.
The research that is carried out by Cancer research UK and the support of the thousands of people who help to raise funds to help beat this illness has meant that today many more men and women are surviving breast cancer.
Well done to the three ladies from BCG who took part and managed to raise some funds for Cancer research UK whilst at the same time forge a new friendship and community between themselves.
If you would like to help them boost their totals then they are still accepting donations until 22nd June so please dig deep and help them to help us beat this disease.
You can donate to their sponsorship online right now by clicking on these links or contacting them direct.

Remember there is no such thing as a small donation so whatever you can manage is always greatly appreciated and your pound could be the one which find a cure. "

Are we sitting comfortably? Posted by admin on Friday, May 09 @ 19:20:54 BST (64 reads) Topic
| Gobby writes "Black Country Gob is looking to build upon the areas of the site that hold the most valuable entries, the memories of it's members and visitors.
We are in particular looking for stories of the Black Country that show what the region was like in your time to enable our youth to understand what life for their parents and grandparents was like.
Stories of life in the war, Life at school. your first day at work, your family way of life all may seem just normal to you but to many others is so different from todays way of life.
We know that their is a wide range of ages on BCG so we should be able to see the changes in life from the 50's through to today which when you consider is half a century span should be facinating.
All stories should be added in the "Life in the Black Country" section.
If you don't have the abilty for long stories why not jot down your memories of a certain area of the Black Country in our "memories of" section.
I for one am looking forward to reading all about what you have to say so get those stories in now and lets make a permanent record of our region. "
